Pumping Out the Holding Tanks: A Not-So-Glamorous Task

Ep 16 Pumping other people’s waste! - https://youtu.be/9fnB17rBN4k

Hey everyone,

Today, I'm tackling a task that's not exactly the highlight of boat ownership: pumping out the holding tanks. Yup, you heard that right. It's time to deal with the less glamorous side of life on the water.

Our forward head is the first stop on this less-than-thrilling journey. As we're transitioning to composting toilets, I'm eager to bid farewell to the traditional holding tanks. They've seen better days, that's for sure.

So, armed with determination and a strong stomach, I set out to find a solution. After some inquiries around the marina, I stumbled upon the Marina’s pumping unit. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, let's see.

I fumble my way through connecting hoses and fittings, attempting to follow the vague instructions provided. But alas, it seems there's more to this than meets the eye. After a few failed attempts and a realization that one of the hoses is cracked, it's back to the drawing board.

With a bit of ingenuity and a trip to Home Depot, I cobble together a makeshift solution using a rubber connector. It's not pretty, but it seems to do the trick.

After a few more twists and turns (literally), success! The tanks are emptied, and the job is done. It's not exactly a glamorous victory, but hey, sometimes you have to get your hands dirty, right?

So, here's to the less glamorous side of boat life. It may not be pretty, but it's all part of the adventure.

Until next time,

Todd
