A Day in the Engine Room: Tackling Boat Repairs

Ep12 Mom’s overwhelmed! - https://youtu.be/dkwgldP5M6k

Hey there,

Today was one of those days where I found myself knee-deep in boat repairs and maintenance tasks. Let me walk you through it.

It all started in the engine room, where I found myself face to face with our trusty flashlight. Yep, I'm at that age where a flashlight in the mouth is just part of the job. My mission? Dealing with the old charger, which was looking worse for wear with its rusted parts.

As I delved deeper into the engine room, I discovered that all the batteries were completely out of water, and the acid levels were less than ideal. So, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work, starting with disconnecting the charger to prevent any voltage mishaps.

Next up, it was time to pump out the bilge water. Armed with a trusty handheld pump, I began the process of removing gallons upon gallons of water from the bilge. But of course, no DIY adventure is complete without a minor spillage mishap.

With nearly 90 gallons of water pumped out, it was time to tackle the battery situation. After some deliberation, I decided to neutralize the battery acid with a mixture of baking soda and water before removing them for recycling.

But the work didn't stop there. I had to troubleshoot the generator, only to find myself faced with more challenges. Despite my best efforts, the generator wasn't cooperating, leaving me scratching my head and reaching for my trusty multimeter.

As the day drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment mixed with a touch of frustration. Boat repairs are never easy, but they're all part of the adventure. Maybe tomorrow will bring new challenges and even greater victories.
