Life as boat owners often comes with its fair share of unexpected challenges and repairs. Today, we found ourselves facing yet another hurdle as our truck decided to leak transmission fluid all over the place. With the truck out of commission, we've been relying on the trusty minivan to get around town.
After a week of waiting, the truck is finally in the shop, and we're anxiously awaiting news about the repairs. The thought of shelling out $800 for a simple seal replacement is daunting, especially considering our ongoing boat repairs. As they say in the boating world, every expense is measured in "boat bucks," and they tend to add up quickly.
But amidst the uncertainty, there's always a silver lining. Breakfast with the kids brings a sense of normalcy to our morning routine, even if it's just granola bars on the go. And making friends in the boatyard reminds us that we're all in this together, navigating the ups and downs of boat ownership as a community.
Today's main project is repairing the anchor roller, a task that's been on our to-do list since we first acquired the boat. Finding a welder capable of working with stainless steel has been a challenge, but luck is finally on our side as a skilled welder has agreed to take on the job.
As we watch the welder work his magic, transforming the anchor roller from a "sow's ear" to a "silk purse," we're filled with gratitude. It's moments like these that remind us why we love the boating lifestyle—the sense of camaraderie, the satisfaction of overcoming obstacles, and the thrill of seeing our boat restored to its former glory.
