Wanting What You Have

Do you ever get overwhelmed feeling like you should be more grateful but the fact is that you feel sad, frustrated, or unhappy about how life is actually going?

Me too...

I like knowing I'm not alone in my craziness. So I'm going to confess that this happens fairly regularly around here. Maybe that will help you not feel so alone. If not, that's ok, just move along... we aren't the droids you're looking for.

If you do feel this way, even occasionally, I'm going to share something I've learned that's really helped me feel better about life in general. I do it in the mornings just after prayers, scriptures, and morning pages. I take a page in a notebook and write a list of 10 things that I wanted that I have. Here's an example:

  1. a loving husband

  2. a feather pillow

  3. a new pair of jeans

  4. ten kids

  5. new shampoo

  6. to live in my trailer

  7. a full head of hair

  8. poached eggs for breakfast

  9. the dishes are done

  10. a chat with a good friend

Now repeat this every morning for a week but don't duplicate any of the items on the list. Try doing it for 30 days, 6 months, a year... by acknowledging the things that we are receiving, the things that are going right, the blessings - however large or small, in our lives our perspective shifts. You will be amazed at what the Lord has done and is doing daily in your life.

I'd love to hear how it goes if you try this. Leave me a comment or drop me a note and tell me
